Clifford Reuben Smith

SMITH – Clifford Reuben February 10, 1919 – October 19, 2008 Passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his family, after a life well-lived at 89 years. Cliff was born in Wawanesa, Manitoba to Reuben and Annie Smith. He was raised on their farm and had many interests in life. In 1941, he married Dorothy Rhodes, and shortly afterward he joined the Canadian Army to serve his country in World War II. He served for four years, one overseas. After his discharge, he decided to stay in B.C. where he worked for 38 years as a lumber grader at Bay Forest Products. He had many hobbies and interests: fossil collecting, lapidary, faceting, soapstone carving, scrimshaw, wood turning, gardening, camping, square dancing and traveling. Clifford is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy, his daughters Faye Smith and Sharon (Jeff) Stephenson, brother Clayton Smith, sisters Kathleen Demond and Muriel (Bill) Abbott, brother-in-law Ernest Rhodes, sister-in-law Lena Rhodes, cousin Jean DePape, and beloved nieces and nephews. He inspired all who knew him with caring and compassion, stability and strength, hope and humility, and with love and laughter. Dad, we had to let you go, but you are forever with us. Thank you for defending our Canadian freedoms. Celebration of life to be held Tuesday, November 4, 2:00 pm at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, dedication to charity of choice greatly appreciated.
